BRACES

Initially, you might experience some tenderness or irritation in your lips, cheeks, and tongue, typically lasting one to two weeks. To ease discomfort:

  • Opt for softer foods initially.
  • Cold foods like Jell-O and yogurt can be soothing.
  • Warm saltwater rinses 1-2 times daily can help.
  • Over-the-counter Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief.
  • Use dental wax on areas causing discomfort.

ALIGNERS

Each set of aligners should be worn for 2 weeks (or as directed by Dr. Lenhart/Dr. Sherman). They must be worn 24 hours a day, except during eating and drinking, to ensure effective orthodontic movement.

CARRIERE MOTION APPLIANCE

This consists of a custom-bonded Carriere Motion appliance, bonded tubes on molars, a custom clear retainer, and orthodontic elastics. These elements work together for effective tooth movement.

PALATAL EXPANDER

The palatal expander gently widens the roof of your mouth to create space for permanent teeth. Dr. Lenhart and Dr. Sherman will select the most suitable type for your needs.

FIXED (BONDED) LOWER RETAINER

This fixed appliance helps maintain the corrected position of your lower teeth. Special care is needed due to the wire attached to the inside of your lower front teeth.

MARA

Adjusting to eating with the MARA appliance may take 4-10 days. Soft foods and smaller food pieces are recommended initially. Avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage the appliance.
